JAGAT
TAMMASHAA
(life is a drama)
Guru
Gobind Singh Ji explains the secret of life as:
MAIN HOON PARAM PURAK KO DAASAA
DEKHAN AAYO JAGAT TAMAASHAA
Our
JEEVAN (life) is a TAMAASHAA (drama) where every one is an actor, playing the
part given by WAHEGURU, the great director. A child is coming into this
world (birth) and some one is going away from this world (death). Sometimes it
is day and then night follows. There are rich and poor people. Some are tired
from sorrow while others are enjoying and the time is passing on in its usual
way.
In
a drama, the son of a minister was assigned the part of a beggar. He
acted like a beggar even though he knew very well that he was not a
beggar. He was doing the duty assigned to him by the director of the
drama. Similarly, in this world, the director, WAHEGURU, has assigned various
types of duties to different people. The world is a huge drama conducted and
directed by WAHEGURU. In a drama an actor is required to act according to the
will of the director and not according to his own liking or wish. WAHEGURU may
make us rich, poor, a scholar, a common street man, handsome or handicapped, to
live alone or with our children. We do not know the greater plans of WAHEGURU
and are not clear about the part assigned to us. It means that wherever
we are placed, we should do our duty happily, honestly, sincerely and
devotedly, neither be jealous of others nor suffer from any type of HAUMAI
(ego).
Our problem is that even while watching a stage drama we feel it to be real.
While watching it sometimes we weep and sometimes we are happy. It is said that
once Ishwar Chandra Vidya Sagar, a highly educated and a wise man was watching
a drama. He was the chief guest and was sitting in the front row. The
climax scene was that of a dark night in which the villain was running after
the heroine and trying to molest her. She started crying for help. Seeing
this Ishwar Chandra could not control himself. He stood up from his
chair, took off his shoe, jumped on to the stage and started beating the
villain. The actor showing great patience held the shoe in his hand and
touched it on his head. He said "This shoe is a very big award and
is of great respect for me. I shall keep it with me forever".
Let
there be distance between our work and our being. Let our work be a play, a
LEELA and do not be the doer but be an actor. Let the art of acting become our
life's ambition because that is the way of God and that should be our way also.
So when we understand this Divine order of WAHEGURU, we can lead a happy and
contended life.
The
government fixes rules and regulations for driving any vehicle. People
are required not only to learn driving, but also to know the rules and
regulations for their safety. If a driver goes through a red light and meets an
accident, it is neither due to the failure of the rules nor the lack of his
driving skill, but his simple ignorance in not obeying the rules. Similarly,
something happens in our daily life. We land ourselves into trouble because we
do not care to listen to the rules made for us by WAHEGURU. Sometimes we
know the rules but we still disrespect or disobey them, which lands us into
trouble. In this case we ourselves are responsible and should not blame
WAHEGURU or any other person.
WAHEGURU
has given different people different levels of intellect, environment,
physical, mental, moral and social capabilities. But we cannot ignore the
knowledge of good or bad while leading this life. An ignorant person can
be saved from doing a wrong act but how can we save the person who knowingly
commits a sin?
JEEWAN
(life) is also like a game. In a game obeying rules is very important. If rules
are broken the game becomes a fighting place. A dishonest player is not
acceptable
Secondly,
to play a game two teams are required and while playing both should sincerely
play the game. If there is no conflict between the two teams we cannot enjoy
the game. Similarly, the game of life is running on this conflict.
When the views of two different persons are exchanged a new discovery is
found. This is the law of nature that without any conflict no energy can
be created. When two stones or two bamboos are rubbed with each other,
fire is produced. So if there is conflict, there will be a new discovery
and energy will be produced.
On
a board we need a black background, as only then white words can be seen
clearly and vice versa. Similarly in a group of good people we cannot see their
good qualities properly unless there is mixture of bad people amongst them.
While performing Ram Lila during Dussharaa we need Ram as a good man and Ravana
as a bad man. If Ravana is omitted or removed from the scene, the Ram Lilla
cannot proceed and will be meaningless. Similarly, in the KHEL (play) of JEEWAN
we need vices and virtues.
There
are only two lucky teams who get a chance to play in the final. They
should be very careful so as not to loose the chance to win this final match.
Similarly, we get this JEEWAN after leading many previous lives. We must take
full advantage of this life so that by doing Bhagati we can be merged with
WAHEGURU by taking full advantage of this chance.
